Instructor Courses

Overview
Wavetrek Rescue offers instructor courses certified both by the ACA (American Canoe Association) and Rescue 3. The courses represent sets of skills, safety procedures and other materials deemed appropriate for becoming an instructor in each of the disciplines. If a course you are interested in does not currently have a date when it is being offered, please call us and inform us of your interest. We will add your name to our wait list and when there is enough people we will run the course.
*All participants must be at least 18 years of age.
ACA Certified Instructor Courses

This 5-day course is designed to give the working knowledge needed to start teaching the A.C.A. Kayaking program. Through the use of video and on water instruction you will develop the proficiency and confidence necessary to be a better paddler or instructor. ACA instructor certification granted to those approved by the instructor trainer.
- Required equipment needed includes full wetsuit or drysuit, a USCG approved life jacket, whitewater helmet, booties or tennis shoes, whitewater kayak, spray skirt, and paddle.
Students are encouraged to bring their own personal gear, however Wave Trek Rescue has some gear available for classes—check availability.

Rescue3 Certified Instructor Courses

Rescue 3 designed this course to ensure the readiness of the instructor candidate. To pass, they will have to show proficiency at each skill station. This course will be two days. The information package and Pro-Qual book will be sent out prior to the course dates.
- Prerequisites include being in good physical condition and having completed the SRT1, SRTA, and TRR.
- Required equipment includes full wetsuit or drysuit, a USCG approved life jacket, whitewater helmet, booties or tennis shoes, hiking boots, and coveralls or heavy clothing, and a headlamp. Gloves and fins are optional.
Students are encouraged to bring their own rescue gear to practice with.

This five-day instructor course is designed to meet the needs of fire agency personnel as well as professionals who work in or around swiftwater (guides, kayakers, fishery personnel, etc.) The course covers all the material in the swiftwater rescue technician course, but from an in depth instructor perspective. Approved instructor course candidates are able to teach the WRT course or the traditional SRT1 course.
- Prerequisites include being in good physical shape, having taken two SRT1 courses, two SRTA courses and one TRR course, and having an EMT certification or Rescue 3 approved equivalent. Students are responsible for contacting Rescue 3 for starting the instructor application process and making sure all certifications are in order.
- Equipment needed includes all PPE for swiftwater and rope classes.
Students are encouraged to bring their own rescue gear to practice with.
